Bulk discounts

Here, you have to create a coupon that applies when the cart contains X or more items irrespective of the products present in the cart. Example – Buy any 10 or more items and get 10% off. FMCG stores leverage this discount strategy to a great extent.

Here, you will have to create a coupon that applies when the cart has a minimum of three and maximum of nine products in the cart, irrespective of the products added.

Product specific quantity discount

Product-specific discount applies when the cart contains a specific product in a quantity. Example – Buy 5 T-shirts and get 5% off.

Here, you will have to create a coupon that applies a 5% discount when the cart has 5 T-shirts only (exact 5).

Consider the same example above. For the exact five products, we set up a 5% off coupon. Similarly, we can set more discounts if user purchases within a range. More the quantity, more the discounts.

Example:

  1. Buy 5 items and get 5% off
  2. Buy above 5 but not more than 10 and get 10% off
  3. Buy above 10 but not more than 20 and get 20% off

Here, you need to create three coupons (5%, 10% and 20%) respectively and then set quantity conditions. For the first pricing tier – Buy 5 items and get 5% off, the coupon setup we have already seen above.

For the second tier condition, select the Cart option and set the Minimum quantity as 6 and Maximum quantity as 10.

Product category based quantity discount

This discount type applies when you want to offer product discounts based on a category. Example – Buy 10 items and get 25% off on clothing items.

Here, you will have to create a 25% off coupon that applies when the cart has 10 products from the Clothing category.

Setup:

  • Go to the WordPress Admin panel > Marketing > Coupons.
  • Create a new coupon or open an existing one. Enter the appropriate coupon code and description. Decide whether you want the coupon to apply only for new users or all users.
  • Under the ‘General’ tab, choose Discount type – ‘Percentage discount’ and enter the coupon amount as 25.
  • Now under the ‘Usage Restriction’ tab, under Product categories, search and enter the category.
  • Scroll down to the Product quantity based restrictions section.
  • Select the Product option. Your category name will show up automatically. Set the quantity as 10.
  • Publish the coupon.

You can also apply restrictions for not the exact but for a minimum quantity of products, or also a range between minimum and maximum like this:

Buy 2 get 1 free / BOGO (Buy one get one) / Buy more get one

Here, we want to offer another product(s) for free or at a discount when user purchases some big ticket items or a bundle of prouducts.

For example: Buy 10 or more items and get an exclusive T-shirt for free.

Setup:

  • Go to the WordPress Admin panel > Marketing > Coupons.
  • Create a new coupon or open an existing one. Enter the appropriate coupon code and description.
  • Select Discount type as Fixed cart discount and set coupon amount to zero since you are offering the main product for free.
  • Now under the ‘Usage Restriction’ tab, under Exclude products, search and enter the product you want to give for free. There’s no point of the offer if that product is already present in cart. Keep it exclusive for offers and surprise customers.
  • Scroll down to the Product quantity based restrictions section.
  • Select the Cart option and set the Minimum quantity as 10.
  • Next, click the ‘Actions’ tab, go to Add products to cart. Search and choose the same product you excluded above.
  • Now, since we are offering the product for free, select 1 under each with quantity and enter 100 under with discount of.
  • Publish your coupon.
